Neil Summerour created the Magneta Font Family, which was released by Positype. There are 13 styles and family package options in Magneta.
Add a little Dwiggins, chuck in some Benton with a dash of Austin, package it up in a clean, modern package, and serve that to describe what inspired Magneta. The family has a Garalde skeleton (like my earlier Epic), but I tried to simplify everything in order to create something much more transitional and modern. This typeface is very similar to the quostige font.
The typeface should be useful for editorials, headlines, or other situations where more visually complex systems are required because the cap and ascenders share the same height and the x-height is a little larger than expected. Unlike in the past, the modulation is much more deliberate and produces some intriguing interactions between the different weights.
There is no shortage of typographic goodness for the designer, with both Normal and Condensed widths available with 6 different weights and matching italics, small caps, old-style figures, swashes, stylistic and discretionary ligatures (that include some fun majuscule ligatures in the roman styles). A collection of decorative ornaments has been made that features geometric, floral, curvilinear, and other patterns to add some spice.
